Use your HOMEWORK COPY to do this work. If you don’t have a homework copy any copy will do but keep all the work together and neat and tidy, correctly numbered and lettered, with margins etc.

*

Choose 12 words from this week’s My Spelling Workbook & write a FABULOUS sentence with at least 2 parts for each one.

*

Choose 6 Spellings from this week’s Ceart Litriú & write a FABULOUS 2 part sentence  for each one. Use your HARDBACK and try to use a mixture of past tense, present tense and future tense verbs with the correct past, present or future tense ending. Use your Foclóir or teanglann.ie to help. Watch your prepositions using your Hardback

Here is the  Look Back Chapter from Mathemagic.

Try the First & Last sum in each line. Spread it out so you’re doing some every day.

I’ve given tips on how to do the sums. Read the tips carefully. If you’re stuck go back and read the tips again.

I will attach the answers at the end of each page so you can check if you are right or not.

If you get a sum wrong use the answers to try to work backwards and see where you went wrong. Then try a different sum on that line and see if you can get it right this time without looking at the answers.

If a sum is too difficult for you give it your best shot and then move on.

Tips for page 139:

Number 1.b. Top number x  side number = Answer where they meet – 5 x 5=25; 7 x 5= 35; 5 x __ = 40 Answer=8

2/3/4/5/6/7  Count decimal points correctly- 2 numbers after points in your sum = 2 numbers after point in your answer. DON’T FORGET THE MAGIC ZERO

8/9/10 –  Factors divide into a number- Factors of 12 are {1,2,3,4,6,12}. Common Factors divide into both number;  (Common factors of 8 and 20 = 1,2,4) .        Multiples are the number it can divide into- Multiples of 4 are 4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,……

11/12/13/14 –

10mm = 1 cm  1mm = 1/10 cm= 0.1cm

100cm = 1m   20cm= 2/10m or 1/5 m = 0.2m

1000m = 1km   5m = 5/1000km =0.005km   124m = 124/1000km = 0.124km

Answers to Page 139.

Use these to help you figure out where you went wrong. If you get one wrong try another sum or two and check if you got those right.

Tips for Page 140..

Number 2 / 3  Convert to decimals first

4-10    You can’t divide with a decimal on the outside of the box so multiply both sides by 10 or 100

47.30 Divided by 2.2

MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES BY 10 = 473.0 divided by 22 = 21.5

11/12     Open your Hardback and check the fractions & percentages there-

1/10 = 10%;   1/8= 12.5%;     1/3= 33.333%      13/ 100 =   13%.     1/6 = 16.66% ………..

13/14/15 Change the % to fraction first

20% of €450 = 1/5 of €450 = 450 divided by 5= €90

Increase = Add it on to your starting number

Increase 500 by 8%= Find 8% of 8/100 of 500 = 500 Divided by 100= 5  x  8= 40

OR 8% = 8/100 = 0.08      so    500 x 0.08 = 40.00

And add it on = 500 + 40 = 540

Decrease= Take it away from your starting number

Decrease 600 by 12.5%= Find 12.5% or 1/8 of 600 = 600 divided by 8 = 75

And take it away = 600 – 75 = 525

Tips for page 141:

Number 1/2/3  Time am-  morning;       pm – afternoon

4  60 minutes in 1 hour

5   Interest is the money you earn from the bank for saving your money there

Interest is also the money the bank charges you when they give you a loan of money

If I save €200 at 10% interest per year I earn 10% or 1/10 of €200 = €20 interest

The bank loans me €800 at a cost of 25% interest per year.

I pay the bank 25% or 1/4 of €800=   €200 interest

6  Perimeter = add all the side of the shape. Don’t’ forget to figure out the length of the sides that aren’t marked.

Area- Length x Width

For irregular shapes divide the shape into regular rectangles and then add the area of each one together to get the answer

7.    Profit is what you make when you sell something for more than it cost you

Loss is the amount you lose when you sell something for less than it cost you

To find the selling price

Find the Profit and add it on to the cost price

Find the Loss and take it away from the cost price

Cost Price = €300;  Profit 20% =  1/5  of €300 = 300 divided by 5 = €60 & add it on:

Selling price = Cost Price €300 + Profit €60 =  €360

8

Find the Cost Price: Cost price is the starting amount- ALWAYS 100%

Selling Price– If you sell an item at 20% profit that means the price includes

100% of the cost price + 20% profit = Selling Price 120%

Selling Price = €600      Profit = 20%  = 1/5     Cost Price = ????

Cost Price = 100% or 5/5

Plus Profit of 20% or 1/5

Selling Price = 100% Cost Price plus 20% Profit 5/5 + 1/5 = 6/5

Cost Price – Divide Selling Price by the Top , Multiply by the Bottom =

600 /6 = 100 x 5 = €500

If the Selling Price made a Loss the Loss is taken away

Selling Price = €80     Loss = 33.33% = 1/3    Cost Price = ???

Cost Price = 100 %   = 3/3

Minus  1/3 Loss = Selling Price = €80 = 2/3

Cost Price=  Divide Selling Price by the top , Multiply by the bottom=

€80 / 2 = €40 x 3 = €120
