Hi 2nd Class, Parents / Guardians.

Congratulations on keeping up with your work from school each week. I have really enjoyed teaching each of you this year and I am so proud of all your hard work. This being the week of the holidays, below are some suggestions of fun experiments and activities for 2nd class. You can pick and choose what you would like to do. Build a Bug Hotel

This experiment will help encourage bug activity in your garden.

Make your own Bug Hotel using the following:

  • Cardboard tubes
  • Pine cones
  • Twigs
  • Dried leaves
  • Shredded cardboard

 

Volcano experiment

Follow the instructions below to create your own volcano. If you would like an extra challenge you could make the mountain part of the volcano using clay, sand or play-doh and place the plastic bottle inside it.

How to make a Volcano

Make your own volcano using the following:

  • 10 ml of dish soap
  • 100 ml of cold water
  • 400 ml of white vinegar
  • Food colouring
  • Baking soda (fill a cup about ½ with baking soda, then fill the rest of the way with water)
  • An empty 2 litre drinks bottle

 

Lava Lamp

Make your own lava lamp using the following:

  • A plastic bottle
  • Vegetable oil or Baby oil
  • Food colouring
  • Water

P.E.

  • With Joe – Live – Mon to Fri @ 9am on Youtube
  • Practise hurling/camogie/football etc. Skills
  • Put on your favourite song and dance!
  • Go for a walk/ run/ cycle with a parent or guardian.
  • Bullseye: Take 10 steps back from a bucket or bin and throw/kick a ball into it! Keep moving back until you can’t score anymore.

Pick as many of the following mindful activities that you would like.

  • Mindful yoga

Art

  • Draw and paint a picture of your favourite memory from this year in Second Class.
  • Pretty Portraits: Draw a portrait of yourself and your family.
  • Recycled Robo: Build a robot using recycled materials from around the house.
