Energy Survey

We are conducting a questionnaire to find out about energy consumption in our homes as part of our work on the Green-Schools programme. If you could take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire, we would be grateful. Thank you.

Green Schools News

All the pupils and teachers have been very busy for the past two years working towards and achieving our first Green Schools Litter and Waste flag. Well done to our first Green School Committee who put in a huge amount of effort and commitment.

On Tuesday the 21st of November, we were invited to attend Wexford County Council’s Annual Environment Awards to receive an award for achieving our first Green Flag. We were presented with a framed certificate and bird house to display at our school.

We are now working our second Green Flag, which is based on reducing the amount of energy the school uses. A new Green School Committee has been formed. Our new class representatives include:

6th class:               Johnny Connors, Paddy Higgins, John Connors, Aaron Doyle

5th class:               Jason Kavanagh Leacy, Colm Redmond Grannell, Aaron Remenyik, Ava Byrne

4th class:               Jack Larkin, Sean O’Farrell, Conall Molloy, Diarmuid Cronin

3rd class:               Dan Doyle, Bobby Brauders,Scott McDonald, Jacob Smullen

2nd class:               Leila Cronin, Sean Morris, Layla O’Connor, Andrew O’Brien

1st class:                Sam Hourihan, Jessica O’Brien, Ciarán Wahab, Isabella O’Gorman.

Senior infants:   James Greene, Grace Murphy, Caoimhe Murphy, Noel Andrews

The new committee’s first task is to complete an environmental review of the school, gathering information based on our current status in regards to our energy consumption.

Great News for Green Schools!

We got great news in school last week. A letter came from An Taisce to inform us that our application for the international Green Flag award had been successful!! The letter stated An Taisce were “highly impressed by our programme and had no hesitation granting our school Green Flag status”. Mr. Cronin was so proud, he gave the whole school a night off homework to celebrate.

We will be presented with our flag at a special award ceremony in May.

Well done to everyone, especially the boys and girls on the committee who give up their lunch breaks for our monthly meetings.

Waste Audit

A second waste audit was completed by the Green Schools Committee in November. In contrast to our first audit completed in January, there has been huge improvement as you can see from the graphs below. The main type of waste identified in the audit is now ‘other’ which mainly consists of hand-towels. To tackle this form of waste, the hand-towels and soap dispensers have been replaced by Eco-friendly systems where hand towels can now be recycled.

Well done everyone for their great effort!
