Green Schools Banner competition
As part of our work towards our Green Schools Travel flag, all students were asked to design a banner that encourages people to help improve the quality of the air for everyone in our school communities.
The winners in St. Joseph’s were:
Insiya Imran – Junior
Eve Kenny – Middle
Chloe Melia – Senior
Eve’s banner was also a national winner!
A representative from Green Schools came to St. Joseph’s to present her with her enlarged, printed banner and a voucher to buy herself plenty of art supplies. Well done Eve!
Run Around Europe
Well done to all classes who began their running/walking challenge on Monday. They will go outside and spend 10 minutes everyday completing laps. These will be added together to reach different places around Europe.
Can Paperclips Float? Why?
2nd class discovered a fascinating fact about water when conducting experiments to test if a paperclip can float by itself. Crazy? After all, it should sink as it is heavier than water!
However, equipped only with the statement that paperclips can float, the children set about testing this hypothesis. They succeeded in doing so and learned that water has a skin (surface tension), which enables paperclips to float. Science is so cool!
Olympian School Visit, 13.3.24
Ms Rochford’s and Ms Kinsella’s 2nd classes entered a competition to have a school visit from an Olympian. I am delighted to say we were successful! A very well done to the children!
The Olympian sprinter, Marcus Lawler, will visit the school on 13th March next. He will spend two hours at the school which will encompass a whole school assembly. This will be followed by a presentation, Q&As, activities and demonstrations, initially with all 2nd classes and then with 5th and 6th classes. Click on the links below to find out more about Marcus Lawler.
