Hello again everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well. Please find below the work for the week ahead. Once again I have included a sample timetable you might like to follow.

English

Sounds

  • Jolly Phonic sound ‘ue‘ – sing the song, say the sound, do the action. Draw pictures of words containing the ‘ue’ sound e.g. statue, tissue, blue, glue, etc. If capable, write the words under the pictures
  • Continue to revise all sounds completed to date

Word Boxes /Reading

  • Read Word Box 5A and 6A. Most of the words in these word boxes have a digraph (two letter sound).  Can you spot the digraph in each word below before you read it
  • Continue to read books regularly to your child at home

Tricky Words

  • New tricky words ‘live‘ and ‘give‘- Write out these tricky words three times. Put it into a sentence orally
  • Revise all tricky words

Handwriting

  • Handwriting booklet: Letters u and v (for those who have these letters)
  • “Letter Formation Workbook” pages 22 and 23 (for those missing the letters in booklet) www.twinkl.ie/offer : Under “new to Twinkl” create an account and make sure to enter the offer code IRLTWINKLHELPS )
    Letter u – Curve down and up and down once more. Little u is a cup that is ready to pour.
    Letter v – Slant down first then up like so. The upside down volcano is ready to blow.

Dictation sentences – Call out the following 5 sentences:

  1. The man is sad.
  2. The dog sat up.
  3. The bus is red.
  4. The pig is fat.
  5. The cat ran and ran.

*Remind the children that we put a capital letter at the start of a sentence and a full stop at the end.

Maths

  • Please complete the following pages (use the CJ Fallon website for the online work)
  • Interactively online pages 106, 107 (Days of the week), 108, 109 – Vertical Addition
  • Busy at Maths home/school links pages 33, 34, 35 (as seen below)
  • Teach your child the order of the days of the week. Tell them that Monday to Friday are the weekdays with Saturday and Sunday known as the weekend. Learn the song below to the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’

Thursday, Friday, all for you.
Saturday, Sunday, that’s them all.
All those days we will recall.”

  • Ask your child to find the name of any day on objects around the house e.g. calendars, newspapers, magazines, mobile phones, etc. Help your child find the day of his/her birthday on a calendar
  • Continue to practise writing numbers 0-5 correctly
  • Continue to practise counting skills, counting from 0 – 10 forwards and backwards (or higher if capable)

  • Hearing page 47 – Chat about how we use our ears to hear different sounds; loud or soft, nearby or far away, high or low. Discuss how our sense of hearing can protect us from danger e.g. you may hear a car horn beeping to warn you or a fire alarm if there is a fire, etc. Chat about animal noises and what animals you would find in a zoo. Ask your child to name his/her favourite animal at the zoo and what noise it makes. Have a look on the Dublin Zoo website to see the different animals (www.dublinzoo.ie)
  • Loud and Soft Sounds page 48 – Identify and differentiate between loud and soft sounds. Listen to the story Peace at Last and discuss the sounds made in the story that kept Daddy Bear awake(click link below)

Art

  • Make a rainmaker! (Link with our sounds topic in our Small World book)
  • You will need: a tube e.g. a pringles box or large smarties box, paint, sellotape, rice
  1. Paint and decorate the tube.
  2. Put some rice in the tube.
  3. Move/Shake the tube from side to side to hear the rice fall.
