Ms. Gordon’s Junior Infant Work 25th-29th May

Hello Junior Infants,

I hope you all had a great weekend and are keeping well. Keep up the fantastic work at home.  I just want to mention that anyone who had already paid Ms. Tobin for the school tour the money will be returned to you in September 🙂

Thank you to everyone that has sent me work.  If you would like to send more photos of completed work or ask me any questions, you can email me at cgordonstjosephs@gmail.com

Take Care,
Caroline Gordon

English

  • Continue to revise all sounds completed to date

Word Boxes /Reading

  • Read Word Box 7A and 8A. Most of the words in these word boxes have a digraph (two letter sound).  Can you spot the digraph in the words before you read them?
  • Continue to read books regularly to your child at home

Tricky Words

  • New tricky words ‘little‘ and ‘down‘- Write out these tricky words three times. Put them into a sentence orally
  • Revise all tricky words

Dictation:

  • Call out the following 5 sentences:
    I can hop.
    I can jog.
    I can run.
    I can jump.
    I can skip.
*Remind the children that we put a capital letter at the start of a sentence and a full stop at the end.

Rhyming words:

  • Practise rhyming words by completing one rhyming worksheet each day
  • Log onto www.cleverlearner.com. In the “reading and writing” section, click on “rhyme : match and trace” and print one worksheet per day. If you are unable to print these, complete orally instead

This weeks rhyming worksheets – Match the rhyme: (an), (og), (at), (en), (am)

Maths

  • Busy at Maths book pages 110, 111, 112 (Day & Night)

  • Busy at Maths home/school links page 36

  • Continue to practise the days of the week with your child this week. Sing the song below to the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’

”Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday too,
Thursday, Friday, all for you.
Saturday, Sunday, that’s them all.
All those days we will recall.”

  • Continue to practise writing numbers 0-5 correctly
  • Continue to practise counting skills, counting from 0 – 10 forwards and backwards (or higher if capable)

SESE (Small World book)

  • Cat Family page 49: Discuss the different members of the cat family and complete the activity
  • Water page 50: Circle and colour the things we need water for. Draw two other things that are not on the page that we need water for
  • Magnets page 51: Use a magnet e.g. a fridge magnet to see which objects on the page the magnet will attract. After this activity tell your child that only metals containing iron are attracted to magnets. Use the magnet to find other objects around the home that are attracted to magnets. If you have sand at home, you could hide objects that are attracted to a magnet in the sand and they can use the magnet to hunt for ‘treasure’
  • Old or Modern page 52: Discuss the words old and modern with your child (objects used in the past are called old, objects we use nowadays are called modern). Talk about the pictures on page 52, chat about what has changed and what has stayed the same
